Individual Psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy addresses mental health and wellness needs when people are experiencing distress and dysfunction that is caused by disturbances in emotions, thoughts and/or behaviours often caused by adverse experiences and maladaptive coping patterns. Individual psychotherapy aims to increase the client’s awareness of their emotions, thoughts and behaviours in order to assist them in processing adverse events and gain skills that help them to reach their goals. Individual psychotherapy is focused around specific goals generated in a collaborative process of assessment and formulation that utilizes the experiences and insights of the client and the expertise of the psychotherapist. Couple Psychotherapy

Couple psychotherapy specifically addresses the process of the interactions between the individuals in the relationship. The goal of couple psychotherapy is to aid the clients in increasing their awareness and understanding of their own and their partners experience in the relationship and to acquire the skills needed to function in a meaningful, healthy, mutually satisfying relationship. Family Psychotherapy

Family Psychotherapy addresses the function of the family unit as a system while considering the roles of family members and each family members experience in the family.  Participation of all family members (also depending on the age of the family members) allows for a thorough and complete assessment and formulation process. Often, for various reasons, having the participation of all family members is not always possible, desired and/or required depending on the goals of the family members seeking service. Family sessions can be immediate and/or intergenerational extended family members and/or identified chosen family participants. Family sessions are focused on increasing relational awareness and understanding of perspectives and experiences with the focus on meaningful, healthy and mutually satisfying relationships. As with individual and couple psychotherapy, goals will be developed and addressed in a collaborative process with the participants. Art Psychotherapy

Limestone incorporates principles of Art Psychotherapy into their approach to traditional psychotherapy as it fits within the client centred approach and treatment focus. Various forms of art are referenced including film, music, photography, visual arts and other creative processes and forms of expression. Movement and voice are also refenced as means of self awareness and expression to support client goals. Individual and Family Grief Counselling

Individual and Family Grief Counselling supports both a normal grief process and various expressions of complicated and disenfranchised grief. While grief itself is a natural process, it can impact mental health and wellness. Grief counselling in combination with psychotherapy provides an opportunity to identify and support mental health impacts resulting from complicated and disenfranchised grief such as interactions with preexisting instabilities in mental health, complex relationships and related losses and triggers. Psychotherapy for the Psychotherapist

Psychotherapist’s participation in psychotherapy ensures their own self care and wellness as well as increases their self awareness and functional use of self as a Psychotherapist. Psychotherapy supports a psychotherapist with their own self care and mental wellness by providing an opportunity to address any vicarious trauma they may experience as a result of their work and to prevent burnout. Psychotherapy also helps to increase self awareness which is central to a functional use of self needed to ensure effective client centred assessment and treatment. In addition, psychotherapy for the Psychotherapist increases the awareness of any bias’, judgements, social location impacts and triggers so that they can ensure that the therapeutic process is not negatively impacted and transference and countertransference can be adequately identified and addressed in order to remain within the parameter’s of facilitating the achievement of the client’s goals. The Psychotherapist engaging in their own psychotherapy also enables them to experience their trade from the client’s perspective, which again supports a client-centred approach to their own practice.  Psychotherapy for the Psychotherapist may also include some aspects of professional coaching and consulting in line with the bio-psycho-socio-cultural education and applications. A Note About Services for Psychotherapy and Social Work Professionals

Psychotherapy for the psychotherapist services are not considered to be clinical supervision or case management services.  Clinical supervision and case management services require specialized contracting and insurance.  Limestone is not currently providing clinical supervision or case management services.

Psychotherapy for Human Service Professionals

Individuals in human service professions can benefit from psychotherapy services in the same way that Psychotherapists do.  Psychotherapy for human services professionals can provide an opportunity for personal growth, professional development, self care and prevention of burnout as well as protection from impacts of inherent job-related trauma triggers and risks.  Like within psychotherapy, human service professions require an increased sense of self and relationship awareness to support a functional professional use of self in the workplace setting.  In addition to the ongoing processing of current workplace challenges, psychotherapy can also process past traumas and unresolved mental health impacts that can influence both the quality and efficacy of the human service professional’s current functioning in the workplace.  Psychotherapy for the human services professional often also combines aspects of coaching and consulting including aspect of bio-psycho-socio-cultural education, application of professional use of self and workplace conflict resolution, problem solving and optimal functioning. Psychotherapy for Management, Leadership and Organizational Professionals

As with psychotherapy for human service professionals, psychotherapy can be similarly beneficial for management and leadership professionals and anyone who works collaboratively as part of a team in their workplace.   Psychotherapy provides the opportunity for personal growth and professional self-awareness, insight and healthy relationship function needed to excel in your profession as well as to provide a workplace with a human positive environment that supports a progressive healthy culture and climate.  Engaging in psychotherapy centred around both personal and professional development, provides the individual with the opportunity to address any past adverse experiences and unresolved mental health impacts that may be impacting their workplace performance and/or relationships in the workplace that may be preventing optimal functioning and collaboration. A Note on the Scope of Services Provided

Limestone does not treat brain injuries, developmental disorders, dementia or any other biologically based conditions.  Limestone also does not treat complex mental health conditions including psychosis and addictions or provide crisis services.  Limestone does however provide service to individuals and family members (including caregivers) who’s mental health/wellness is impacted by their work and relationships with those suffering from complex physical, developmental and mental health needs.

Where there is a request for service or client goal that falls outside the scope of Limestone’s services, clients will be referred to other specializing professionals and/or relevant community supports and/or medical services.

Conflicts of Interest

Limestone may be restricted in the ability to service individuals and/or groups where there may be a conflict of interest.  Conflicts of interest arise when there may be, or there is a risk of, dual relationships.  Clients are asked to reveal any potential conflicts of interest at the onset of service requests and/or as they may become apparent during service delivery.
